PAO Outreach Program at U.S. University Fair Focuses on Student Visas

A U.S. Consular Officer discussed the student visa application process, including processing times and documentary requirements, with a large number of students and parents attending the Linden Tours University Fair, which took place on Monday, November 13, 2006 at the Marriott Hotel in Dubai. The U.S. Consulate General’s Educational Advisor provided an overview of the UAE educational system to U.S. university administrators and had a booth with handouts and information for prospective students. Public Affairs Officer Marion Ram met with University representatives to explain the U.S. Consulate’s educational advising services. Twenty-one universities were present to provide information to students regarding admission, testing, scholarships and other issues related to the application process. The event drew a crowd of about 200 students and parents. The outreach program was part of the Consulate General’s celebration of International Education Week.

Students unable to participate in the event who would like to learn more about studying in the U.S. can make an appointment with the Education USA Center at 04-311-6172. The Center has a collection of books on testing, admission requirements, and courses of study at American colleges and universities and is an excellent resource for prospective students. Students should also be aware of the State Department’s website at http://educationuse.state.gov, an extremely useful research tool for finding the college or university most suitable for a desired course of study.
