Guest Biography: Stephen A. “Tony” Edson is deputy assistant secretary for visa services in the State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs. From 2001 until 2005 he served as managing director of visa services and senior advisor for strategic planning to the visa services directorate. He has held overseas assignments in Naha and Tokyo, Japan; Bangkok, Thailand; Mumbai, India; and Jakarta, Indonesia. Edson graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor's degree in East Asian languages and culture in 1980. He holds a master's degree in management from the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, and a Master of Science degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College, Ft. McNair, Washington.
