U.S. and UAE Legal Communities Explore Judicial Similarities and Differences

June 15, 2009 – 69 visiting members of the U.S. National Bar Association joined their counterparts from the Dubai legal community to explore the similarities and differences in the U.S. and UAE judicial systems.

The event, co-hosted by the National Bar Association and Dubai-based law firm Al Tamimi & Associates and sponsored by the U.S. Consulate General, offered a forum to discuss important issues relating to each country’s respective judicial system. 

Following opening remarks by U.S. Consul General Paul Sutphin and Al Tamimi Managing Partner Hoda Barakat, the seminar featured a series of interactive presentations on judicial policy.  Al Tamimi Partner Hassan Arab spoke about Dispute Resolution in the UAE, while Al Tamimi Founding Partner Essam Al Tamimi offered an overview on the DIFC Courts.  The Honorable Shelvin Hall, Justice of the Illinois Court of appeals provided an overview of the U.S. Federal Court System, and the Honorable Marguerite Downing, Judge of the Los Angeles
