Applications Being Accepted for MEPI Student Leaders Program

Application Deadline: February 15, 2010

The MEPI Student Leaders program will award scholarships to outstanding students from the UAE for a five-week intensive summer program in the United States at a diverse network of accredited two- and four-year institutions.  Participants will enroll in courses on leadership practices and capacities at their individual institutions for approximately four weeks.  All institutions will have participants from multiple countries.  Following the academic residency period, participants will join in an educational study tour running approximately one week.

Eligibility for participation in the NESA UGRAD is open to anyone who meets the following criteria:

•         UAE Nationals;

•         20 to 24 years of age;

•         Demonstrates strong leadership potential;

•         Is willing and able to fully participate in an intensive academic program, community  service, and active educational travel program;

•          Is comfortable with campus life, sharing living accommodations while traveling with a multinational group of participants from the Middle East, North Africa and the United States, and making adjustments to cultural and social practices different from those of their home countries;

•         Submits a complete application with  all required documents by the application deadline;

•         Must be available late June through August 1, 2010;

•         Is able to receive and maintain a J-1 visa;

•         Is committed to returning to their home country after completion of the program;

•        Is proficient in spoken and written English at the time of application.

CHECKLIST FOR COMPLETE APPLICATION:

Before submitting your application to the address CulturalExchangesUAE@state.gov, please be sure you have included all of the following REQUIRED components:

•         Completed, signed Middle East  Partnership  Imitative ( MEPI) Student Leaders Program application form

•         Personal statement in English, 350-500 words, typed

•         Copy of the data/photo pages of your passport

•        Official transcripts for years of university study

•         Official results of the secondary school leaving exam

•          Three letters of recommendation from teachers/professors

•         TOEFL or ITP TOEFL score report
