Consulate General Employees Celebrate Ramadan at Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding to Send a Message of Goodwill and Cooperation
September 12, 2009 – Building on President Obama’s call to foster collaboration between people across the world, 22 employees of the U.S. Consulate General – including the new Consul General and his wife – joined with employees of the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding and members of the public for an Iftar in Bastakiya.
During the traditional Iftar meal, featuring homemade Emirati dishes, members of the Consulate learned about the traditions and rituals of Ramadan from the Emirati volunteers. Following the Iftar, everyone enjoyed a walking tour to the Bastakiya Mosque, where they heard the live call to prayer.
The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding seeks to bring down barriers between people of different nationalities, and to help understand the traditions, customs and religion of the UAE.
