Consulate General Co-sponsors Panel on Women in the GCC Workplace

The speakers

December 13 - The Consulate General and Stanton Chase International hosted a breakfast at the Capital Club (DIFC), under the title: “Preparing the Next Generation: Women at the Helm of Managing Change”.

More than 100 participants, joined to listen to the views of the three distinguished panelists:

Ms Sara Ismail Mohamed, Board Member – CEO, Al Bashayer Investment Company
Ms Cari E. Guittard, Professor, Corporate Diplomacy, Geopolitical Risk & Global Management, USC Annenberg & Hult International Business School
Ms Muna Al Gurg, Director of Retail, Al Gurg Group

The three panelists as well as the participants, all agreed that because of greater access to education, GCC women are increasingly moving into the workplace, beyond the traditional confinements of home and family.  Educated and ambitious young women are participating more and more in the public arena as businesswomen, university deans, bankers, medical professionals, scientific researchers, and government ministers.

Changing regional demographics, with an emerging young population, and the economic growth in the GCC demand that increasingly more and more women take leadership roles in both the public and private sectiors.  Potential challenges to women undertaking these new roles include aspiration gaps in society, the self-perception of many women, and the need for further greater educational resources.
